Cultural & religious education workshops
Six themes, each planned in consultation with headteachers, RE leads and teaching staff so that the session complements what your pupils are studying. Sessions are interactive, inclusive and age-appropriate, using discussion, storytelling, artefacts, practical activities, music, dance and food as the topic suits.
- 01Sikhi (Sikhism)Gurus, festivals, symbols and Gurdwara lifePupils explore the lives and teachings of the Ten Gurus, Sikh symbols and festivals such as Vaisakhi and Bandi Chhor Divas. Artefacts, stories and discussion bring a day in a Gurdwara into the classroom.
- 02Hinduism (Sanatan Dharm)Festivals, stories, symbols and traditionsBeliefs, symbols and celebrations are introduced through storytelling, artefacts and creative activities. Diwali, Holi and Raksha Bandhan are explored alongside everyday practices that vary between communities.
- 03Henna artMehndi traditions, demonstration and designPupils learn where mehndi sits in South Asian celebrations, then watch a live demonstration of the artist at work. Paper-based design activities let everyone take part in pattern, symmetry and repetition.
- 04Indian clothingTextiles, identity and dress traditionsFabrics, colour and embroidery open up questions about identity, region, faith and celebration. Pupils handle textiles, see a turban demonstration and design outfits of their own.
- 05Indian food & cookingSpices, vegetarian cooking and sharing foodSpices, utensils and preparation methods are introduced through discussion and hands-on cooking. Vegetarian tasting and simple dishes such as chapattis show why sharing food matters.
- 06Bhangra & Bollywood danceSteps, rhythm and group routinesBhangra and Bollywood are introduced as two distinct forms, then learned step by step as a group. No previous dance experience is needed to join in with rhythm, routines and music.
Assemblies and introductory sessions
Assemblies and introductions last 40 minutes or longer and can focus on Sikhi, Sanatan Dharm/Hinduism, India and its culture and traditions, or a specific topic your pupils are studying.
Displays, artefacts, interactive discussion and questions encourage pupils to take part. Assemblies work well on their own or as the opening to a day of workshops.
