A whole-cohort cultural day for over 250 Year 7 students, delivered by the Gvants team as a rotation of practical workshops across the school.
The workshop mix
Bollywood dance with Shaan
Steps and short routines taught to groups of students throughout the day.
Henna design with Tarah
Demonstration and design work, with students exploring pattern and symmetry.
Rangoli
Coloured powders, chalks, glue and salt used to build bright floor and paper designs.
Sikhi sessions with Kamlesh
Stories, artefacts and discussion introducing Sikh beliefs and practice.
Vegetarian Langar tasting
Food shared alongside a conversation about community, service and inclusivity.
A final Bollywood dance-off
The day closed with the whole cohort back together for a dance-off.
Participation and cultural learning
With a full year group involved, the day was built around taking part. Each rotation gave students something to do with their hands or their feet, and each was led by someone able to answer questions about the tradition behind the activity.
The Langar tasting tied the practical and the religious learning together: food shared equally, discussed as an expression of community and inclusivity rather than as a standalone tasting session.
A day on this scale needs planning with school staff well in advance — spaces, timings, group sizes, materials and dietary requirements are all agreed before the team arrives.
